MEDICAL CODING

Medical coding is the process of extracting data from a doctor's notes on a patient's medical history, including medical procedures, diagnoses, necessary medical equipment, and medical services. This data is converted into standard medical alphanumeric codes by a medical coder.

Medical Coders uses a set of assigned codes for coding purposes. These codes mainly includes CPT, HCPCS and ICD. International Classification of Diseases or ICD codes are internationally recognised code, developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The classification system is primarily used for data collecting and health records, among other things. These codes can categorise signs, conditions, illnesses, and fatalities. For example ICD code, N10 denotes Acute Pyelitis.

Acute pyelitis is a type of urinary tract infection that affects the kidneys. It is caused by bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, entering the urinary tract and infecting the kidneys. Symptoms of acute Pyelitis include fever, chills, pain in the lower back, and frequent, painful urination. Treatment usually involves antibiotics, fluids, and rest.
